Quick to Believe

Slow to Believe

He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!  Luke 24:25 NIV

This scripture takes place after Jesus came alive from the dead. Luke 24:13-32. Some women went to the tomb where Jesus’ body had been laid three days earlier, but it was empty. Angels told them Jesus was alive so they rushed to tell the men! Some of the men went to the tomb, but when they didn’t see Jesus they didn’t know what to think.

Later in the day, two of the men were walking on a road to a town called Emmaus when Jesus caught up to them, joining in on their conversation. They were talking about Jesus with Jesus, but didn’t recognize Him! After they spoke for a while, Jesus rebuked them for being so slow to believe what the prophets had spoken about the Messiah (Jesus). They still didn’t recognize Him but they invited Him to their house!

As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!  Luke 24:30-31. NLT

Quick to Believe the Word

Jesus said His disciples were slow to believe all that the prophets had spoken. What the prophets spoke was the Word of God. God spoke to the prophets and they wrote His words down. Today we have God’s Word, the Bible, in written and audio form. Most of us can read or listen to the Word. The question now is, “Are we quick to believe?”

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world. John 6:51. NKJV

Maybe the words of the prophets, the things Jesus had taught the disciples for 3 years, the cross and resurrection converged at the table that day when Jesus broke the bread and blessed it. Suddenly their eyes opened and everything started to make sense! Jesus was the living bread broken on the cross to bring the world eternal salvation! When their spiritual eyes opened they finally recognized His presence! He suddenly disappeared from their physical eyes, but now they were able to believe without seeing. They were now quick to believe!

Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, do you now believe? Blessed [happy, spiritually secure, and favored by God] are they who did not see [Me] and yet believed [in Me].” John 20:26. AMP

Sit at the Table with Jesus

Jesus says we are blessed when we don’t see Him and believe anyway. We’re blessed! Knowing that we are seated with God in the realm of God’s Spirit helps us to be quick to believe Him. The Holy Spirit is in us and and around us bringing us God’s presence! He wants to help us with everything if we will be still and learn to commune with Him.

I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:20b. KJV

We don’t have to be slow to believe God’s Word. We can be quick to believe because we are seated with God spiritually “at His Table” like the disciples were seated with Jesus when their eyes were opened to see Him in the natural earthly realm.

Believe that Jesus is always with you, even though you cannot see Him. Allow God’s love and truth to overwhelm you as you read His Word. God wants you to know that He is so pleased you are His child. He has so much to give us if we can simply trust Him. Reject the temptation to be slow to believe in God’s promises. Take time to tell God that you want to be quick to believe– full of faith! Ask Him to help you. I am doing the same! I believe our spiritual eyes will be opened to see Him in ways we never have before!
