Rainbow Revelations

Silent Reading Time: 7 Minutes

The Promise

And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.. 1 John 2:25 NKJV

This morning as I watered our plants with a water hose in the back yard, a rainbow formed. I love rainbows! God made a promise to us after the great flood that He would never again flood the whole earth. But I believe God gives us rainbows to remind us that He is a God that keeps His Promises.

Reminders

Rainbows have appeared as I interceded for others, letting me know that the Lord was answering my prayers. God painted a rainbow over our church after a service which reminded me of prophetic Words spoken over our church body; the promise of a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I experienced a beautiful rainbow after a family celebration, reminding me that God’s blessings are upon Mark and me, our daughters, our sons-in-law, and our grandchildren.

Then there was that time when I was about to step out of the grocery store. There was a sudden shower of rain though the sun was shining. A lady next to me said, “There’s going to be a rainbow! There’s going to be a rainbow! Look for it!” Her joy was contagious! And BAM! There it was– right in front of us! A beautiful big rainbow landed at the end of the parking lot, about 8 car spaces away. She had received a revelation! We began to praise the Lord!

The Journey

The most unusual rainbow experience I’ve ever had was on my way back home from visiting my parents in Nashville. As I was driving south on I-65, I was talking with the Lord, listening to good teaching, worshiping, etc. For years, I had pursued Jesus, tearing down spiritual strongholds, one stone at a time as the Lord revealed them. I wondered how far along I was on this spiritual journey and how long it would take before my big breakthrough, so I just asked the Lord. Right then, as I came around a bend, there was a rainbow. It went about 1/4 way up from the ground bending slightly over the highway.

I knew this was my answer and I was tempted to be disappointed. Had I not come farther than this on my pilgrimage? But then, realizing that God had spoken directly to me like a friend, I felt very loved and cared for. God wasn’t scolding me, and in fact, He was consoling me. His promises are true and were coming to pass in my life. My hope was not deferred but encouraged in His presence. Proverbs 13:12 I didn’t need to be upset, worried or fear defeat because He promised He would never leave me. I just needed to enjoy the unveiling of truth as He continued to hold my hand and guide me.

And so by persevering, Abraham inherited the promise. Hebrews 6:15 NET

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. Hebrews 10:36 NLT

The Garden Experience

This morning as I was stepping out of the house to water the plants, I reached for my ear buds. Listening to scripture or worship songs seemed like the perfect thing. But instead, I felt like the Lord wanted to “walk the garden” with me in silence. My mind wandered a bit thinking about the plants, but I knew He was with me. On purpose, I made rainbows with the water hose as I remembered some of the rainbow events in my life. Then, out of the blue, I heard God speak into my heart, “The rainbow is in the water.” I knew right away what He was saying. God’s promises are found in Him, the Living Water!

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14 NIV

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 NIV

The Living Water

It is in worshiping God in Spirit and in truth that His Living water flows into our lives and brings forth His promises. There is no substitute for the life-giving Water of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. All of God’s promises are found in His presence, not in the works, ideas or philosophies of mankind. It is tempting to blindly accept the advice of others, or unintentionally adopt the spiritually unhealthy habits of those around us, disregarding the presence of the Lord. But everyone who drinks daily from Jesus, the Water of Life, will become filled with the promises of God!

God’s Precious Promises

God’s divine power has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness.  In this way he has given us the very great and precious gifts he promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature. 2 Peter 1:3-4 GNT

God has given us very great and precious promises so that through them we may participate in His divine nature. That’s amazing! We have all of God’s promises available to us and residing within us through the Holy Spirit! His presence unlocks those promises bringing life and breakthrough!

God’s Light

God is light and in Him there is no darkness – at all. 1 John 1:5 God’s Word is a light. Psalm 119:105 As the sun rays shine on the droplets of water, a rainbow is displayed. As God’s Light is revealed through the Word, His promises are released into our lives.

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers and sisters. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures. James 1:16-18 NASB

God’s promises are found in scripture and His Word is full of the Holy Spirit and Life. John 6:63 When we allow the Holy Spirit to read the Word to us, we receive revelation in our hearts and His promises begin to manifest in our lives. So, as we drink in God’s presence with the light of His Word, anything is possible.

The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, believers) say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take and drink the water of life without cost. Revelation 22:17 AMP

The Maturity Process

I have experienced God’s Presence increasing in my life over recent years. The Lord has been revealing strongholds in my soul and they are losing their grip. I know that God sometimes delivers instantly by the power of His presence. But I also know He delivers gradually. The intimacy and love between God and His children is priceless either way.

There is spiritual strength, maturity, and wisdom that develops when someone pursues the Lord wholeheartedly, day in and day out, regardless of the cost. And when it comes to our personal promises in Christ, it’s not God who delays the process, it’s us.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 KJV

The Lord Himself Is Our Promise

The Lord is faithful and unchangeable. His promises have not been revoked. Jesus is the Rock that was struck for us, from which flows Living Water. There is no need to strike the Rock again but to simply ask Him for a drink. He is Almighty God and Judge, but He is also loving and full of grace, inviting us to put our trust in Him.

I hope that every time you see a rainbow, you will remember that God’s promises are in the Living Water, Jesus Christ, and His Light brings them to pass! I pray you will drink from Him every day!

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
