One With God

Reading Time: 8 Minutes

If you know and follow Jesus with all your heart, you are “one with God.” You didn’t earn your entrance into God’s presence. Your faith in Jesus Christ has brought you into a loving relationship with God and you have the honor of living in God’s presence!

One Spirit With the Lord

But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him. 1 Corinthians 6:17 NET

If we choose to be united with the Lord, the Bible says we are one spirit with Him! That happens the moment we are born again. And from that moment on, the Lord is our source of life, light and love– our everything! Following any other spirit will lead us away from God. If we learn to listen to the Holy Spirit we can live in victory over the devil.

Born Again Believers in Christ are One

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. John 17:20-23 NKJV

Jesus prayed to the Father that we would be “one” with God and with our brothers and sisters in Christ. This can only happen by individuals who choose to remain one with the Holy Spirit. If we try to be unified by our own strength to simply “keep the peace” we can easily become distracted by the enemy. It can even lead to falling away from God.

But unity led by the Head and King, Jesus Christ, mobilizes the Body of Christ to accomplish the directives of God for His Kingdom sake. The Holy Spirit gives us gifts and power to accomplish our individual callings and purposes in this life to accomplish God’s will. He fills us with His love causing us to bear the good fruit of supernatural unity. Following the Head, we will move together in victory for God’s glory!

Jews & Gentiles Made One in Christ

But now [at this very moment] in Christ Jesus you who once were [so very] far away [from God] have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace and our bond of unity. He who made both groups—[Jews and Gentiles]—into one body and broke down the barrier, the dividing wall [of spiritual antagonism between us], by abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the hostility caused by the Law with its commandments contained in ordinances [which He satisfied]; so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thereby establishing peace. And [that He] might reconcile them both [Jew and Gentile, united] in one body to God through the cross, thereby putting to death the hostility. Ephesians 2:13-16 AMP

The Old Covenant of the Law

Early in history, God chose the Jewish people to carry His Word (light) to the world. They were required to keep God’s moral laws and perform holy sacrifices that were actually symbolic of Jesus, though they didn’t understand it at that time. Anyone in all the world (often referred to as Gentiles) could join the Jewish faith and some did. But God’s covenant promises were given specifically through the Jewish people. Jesus, God’s Son, was born in Israel as a Jewish person approximately 2,000 years ago. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross to redeem the world of its sin (Ephesians 1:7) and was raised to life on the third day!

The New Covenant of Grace Through Jesus

Jesus’ death and resurrection brought about a new covenant that fulfilled all the rules and regulations required in the old covenant. Jews and non-Jews alike can be united in the Holy Spirit by faith in Jesus! True Christians love, pray for and support Israel and all Jewish people around the world. We pray that their eyes will be opened to their amazing Messiah, Jesus. And may the Good News of Jesus be proclaimed to every nation, tribe and people! God loves everyone in the world! (John 3:16-17)

We Are In Christ

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

When we put our faith in Christ Jesus, we are “in Christ.” That means we have become one with Jesus. He “recreates” us into a new person by washing our sins away and placing His Spirit inside us. He promises that all things have become new. We are not who we were before we were united with Jesus. If we can see this beautiful picture and believe it, especially when we are new believers, we can live from a place of victory. Know who you are in Christ. You are one with Him and your brothers and sisters in Christ! As Jesus forgave us, we forgive others because we are one with His Spirit. And because our Father is generous, we are also generous to those in need because we are one with our Father. We live close to His heart that is full of love and compassion!

One In Righteousness

But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:17-20 NIV

Jesus took all our sin, illness, rebellion, fear, hatred, depression and everything from the kingdom of darkness upon Himself on the cross. He took our punishment and purchased our freedom for us! Jesus overcame for us and now we belong to Him– body, soul and spirit!

Many Christians try in their own strength to not sin, but we can’t overcome in our own strength. God is patient with us as we seek victory over sin but only He can deliver us from evil. Believing with all of our hearts that we are one with God and one with His righteousness is the first step to breakthrough! But we cannot yield to Jesus and continue to yield to sin. Choose to be one with the Lord and resist all evil spirits. It may take some time but God will help you, so don’t give up!

Remaining One With God is a Choice

Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. John 15:5-8 NLT

The Lord is so wonderful! His instructions keep us out of trouble if we understand His amazing love and cling to His promises. We will go through many trials in this life. But if we remain in His love and seek to know Him by His Spirit, we will grow stronger. Our lives will produce evidence that we are one with God, by the way we love God and other people.

One With God

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. John 14:20 NIV

So, don’t believe the devil’s lies and think that you are not one with God. Jesus understands what you are going through because He walked this earth as a human. He experienced temptation, rejection, grief and pain even though He didn’t sin. God cares about the battles we face and is incredibly compassionate. He will not throw you away as you struggle to know Him better! Keep your eyes on Jesus!

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 NIV

We are safely hidden with Christ in God and live in a place of victory– seated with God in the heavenly realms as we live on earth! He is our source of life! There are no limits as to what God can do through His Church when the Body of Christ understands that we are one with God!
