VISIONS

Gears

Reading Time: 6 Minutes

On Sunday morning, January 15, 2023 I was with our church prayer team. We were worshiping, seeking God and interceding for the church services that would take place that day. I closed my eyes and saw a gear. That was all I saw in that simple vision. God is preparing us to work together in unity and power for His glory! I won’t pretend to know all about gears. But we can apply some simple truths about gears to help us in our spiritual lives.

Gears Work Together In Unity

A gear is not useful by itself. It is a wheel with teeth designed to fit perfectly as a set of two or more gears. Gears work together for a specific purpose. In the same way, as believers, we must work together in the unity of the Holy Spirit if we want to see God’s will accomplished. That unity is not a works-based mindset. It is God’s Agape Love working through us by His Spirit.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to live together in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
Running down upon the beard,
As on Aaron’s beard,
The oil which ran down upon the edge of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For the Lord commanded the blessing there—life forever. Psalm 133:1-3 NASB

We are brothers and sisters in Christ. The Word says that in Christ we are all priests (like Aaron) in that we carry the Holy Spirit. Jesus is our High Priest. The precious oil is the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon us because we are seated together with God in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 2:6 Only when we are seated in God’s Love and attentive to the Holy Spirit will we be able to be unified and anointed in His power.

Small & Large Gears

Gears of different sizes are used in machines, but each gear is equally as important as another. In the same way, your place in the Kingdom is vitally important. When you follow the Spirit, God will place you right where He needs you! Do not underestimate the value of what He has called you to do in this season. He might have you at home raising your kids. That’s a huge calling! God may have you working in a secular field or in ministry. Wherever you are, God’s Spirit in you brings the atmosphere of Heaven into that place. We are His gears that accomplish His will in the Kingdom!

Gears Don’t Power The Machine

Machines with gears can be powered by human strength or motors. In the same way, believers do not provide the power for God’s work. We are the gears and God’s Spirit inside us provides the power. Like gears, we joyfully lock into the place God designed for us. We allow Him to put us into motion by the gifts and power of the Spirit! When we try to serve God by our own power our works are dead.

Gears can increase force. Gears make it possible for humans to perform work that they otherwise would not be able to do. When believers in the Body of Christ yield together to God in unity like gears, the force of His power will increase. We will see amazing things begin to happen in the Kingdom of God!

Disconnected

If a gear’s teeth are “bent out of shape” the machine will become compromised. The broken gear has to be fixed or replaced before the machine can function properly. One “bent out of shape” Christian can damage those they are connected to. You get the picture!

Don’t misunderstand me. The Kingdom of God will not stop functioning because some are unwilling to repent and follow the Spirit. God can choose another person or ministry to accomplish His purpose. Esther 4:12-14 Also, I’m not saying that God can’t use you until you are completely “sanctified.” But God does command us to love one another. If we don’t love one another, the Spirit is not working in us.

When church people believe that only their pastors should do God’s work, the gears lay unused on the pew, disconnected. This is not what God has in mind for His children. Ephesians 4:11-13

By the same token, if a believer or a group of believers are not paying attention to the Holy Spirit, their efforts can become disconnected from God’s purpose. They may have the “machine of ministry” running and looking good from an earthly viewpoint. But if it is not powered by the God of supernatural love, it is not connected to His Kingdom. That work will not be eternal. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Direction, Speed and Force

Gears can change the direction or speed of rotation for the machine they serve. The Spirit of God is like the wind that blows where it wills. He alone has the right to change the direction and speed of what He is doing in the Kingdom. But God chooses to use us! Hallelujah! What an honor! We have to let Him do as He desires through us by paying attention to the Holy Spirit.

The Big Picture

Gears are only useful if they are placed with at least one other specially designed gear. In the same way, we don’t function in the Kingdom alone. God is love. Everything He does in the Kingdom is because of His love and connection to us individually and as a Body. In the same way, everything we do in the Kingdom is because of God’s Agape love. Therefore, we must connect with one another like gears and work together as His Spirit leads. Gears work together in perfect unity, kind of like my dance with Jesus in The Beautiful Dream!

From a heavenly realms point of view, every believer living by the Spirit fits together within a huge living machine! Every believer who is following the Spirit’s lead is in some way impacting God’s Kingdom all over the world. We need one another. We need you!

The Anointing Oil

God is aligning His gears now. He is pouring on the anointing oil of His Spirit and increasing His power through His children on earth. If you’re concerned that you might not find your place in the Body of Christ, don’t worry. Simply draw near to Jesus and He will draw near to you. When that happens, you will be right where you need to be! You will be seated with Christ in the heavenly realms, following the Spirit’s lead! The Love God gives you will overflow everywhere you go, and others will come to Jesus because of you. You are a blessing in the Kingdom of God!

Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:14-16 NLT
